The cost of living in Newcastle is low compared to many other cities in the UK. Accommodation is reasonably priced, many amenities are within walking distance and student discounts are available in the city. Newcastle is one of the most exciting, friendly and cosmopolitan cities in the UK, and is fast becoming an internationally renowned centre of culture and science. Newcastle has an international airport and is three hours by train from London. There is an extensive bus network and underground metro transport system with stations close to the University campus, making transportation around the city quick and easy. Newcastle has recently been named Britain's best town for students in a survey by Accommodation for Students.com, which drew on the reviews of 36,000 students.

The university's library is the only library in the UK to be awarded the Government’s Charter Mark for excellent customer service five times in a row, in recognition of the high-quality learning environment available for students. And, the university Computing Service provides more than 1,300 PCs in 40 cluster rooms across the campus.
